This course explores the conditions of women's work, paid and unpaid. We look at the historical development of the sexual division of labour – its implementation and contestation – and we explore the feminization of work globally and within specific industries. Theoretically, we will be guided by the rich debate around reproductive labor. Practically, we will look at household work, non-standard employment, women in non-traditional occupations, technology, racism and the condition of immigrant women. |
