What does it mean to be German today? How can we define German identity in an age of globalization and migration and what is Germany’s migration history? This seminar will introduce students to German migration history, politics and discourse, starting with the post-WWII migration into Germany and surveying its political regulations over time. Students will acquire solid knowledge of key aspects of migration, its concepts and politics in a German context. Throughout this seminar, we will also closely look at issues of integration and, via excursions, will explore migrant life in Berlin’s neighbourhoods. |
