The subject matter of this seminar is concerned with the delayed or partial development of language in children acquiring their native language. This phenomenon is known as Specific Language Impairment (= SLI); SLI is a disorder affecting about 7% of the children in any speech community. By its very nature, the problem at issue will require us to integrate central topics from the disciplines of grammar and grammatical theory, psychology, psycholinguistics and neurocognition. Above all a strong foundation in the central areas of English grammar (i.e. phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics) is a minimum requirment for participation. |
