Block nach Ende des Sommersemesters. Title: Terrestrial Ecosystems: From Theory to Modeling Goals: The focus will be on introducing fundamental principles of terrestrial ecosystem functioning as relevant to the global environmental change. Representation of these principles in numerical models of different types (e.g., prognostic versus diagnostic) will be discussed. The course will make students better-informed users of ecosystem models or interpreters of model results. The course will consist of morning lectures and afternoon lab session. In the afternoon lab students will gain “hands on” experience with an ecosystem model. Topics: - the fundamental principles of terrestrial ecosystem functioning with focus on water, carbon, and nitrogen cycles
- purposes that ecosystem models are developed and used
- representation of ecosystem processed in models
- model applications for forecasting
