Lifelines: Routes, Transport and Mobility in Central Asia Routes are not just transport corridors for people and goods. Knowledge and culture radiate along them; wars and epidemies do the same. Roads can hold states together; they also constitute elements of emancipation and participation in public life. Moreover, an insight into transportation patterns provides us with insight into the geopolitical situation of a country and the mindset of its leaders. The class aims to critically investigate into the emergence, the significance and development of routes in Central Asia and to provide an introduction into Mobility research. |
