This class allows students to practice English, but to also learn the methods of comparative constitutional law and apply them to several topics around fundamental rights. We cover the right to self-determination as one of the rights central to most choices we make, including reproductive rights, or the choice of intimate partners. In addition, we discuss cases around equality and affirmative action, as well as political rights. Depending on interests of participants, we may add topics. Students will be asked to read excerpts from cases in advance, introduce one topic for discussion, and partipate in mock court proceedings, on the basis of comparative lawyer briefs. |
