This course will be dedicated to different types of narratives dealing with queer lives (here referring to dissident genders and/or sexualities) from the beginning of the twentieth to the beginning of the twenty-first century. We will read these through the lens of contemporary queer theory and discuss the role of narrative form and genre for the construction of fluid identities and flexible genders. We will begin with Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, and it would be helpful if you could read the book before the second session. Please get hold of the following texts: Virginia Woolf, Orlando (1928) Quentin Crisp, The Naked Civil Servant (1968) Sarah Waters, Tipping the Velvet (1998) Alan Hollinghurst, The Line of Beauty (2004) Die Veranstaltung beginnt in der 2.
