This lecture offers an overview of U.S. American literary history from the 17th century to World War I. It is complemented by a Lektüreseminar respectively a tutorial exercise, in which selected texts from the respective periods are discussed in greater depth. The courses are based on the Norton Anthology of American Literature (7th edition), which is an essential text for the study of American literature. Additional texts will be available in a reader available at the copyshop "Sprintout", Georgenstraße, S-Bahn Bogen 190. Credits are based on regular attendance, participation in class discussions, an oral presentation or, in exceptional cases, a short written assignment. In order to attain groups of comparable size, students are required to sign up for the Lektüreseminar of their choice on lists posted on the blackboard opposite room 2010 after September 16, 2010. |
