The focus of this seminar will be placed on the study of the formal features and operations that characterize the sentence structure of English. It will cover a range of topics including constituent structure, lexical and functional categories, feature checking, movement operations, raising/control/exceptional case marking predicates, VP shells and agreement projections. The theoretical framework under consideration will be a current version of the minimalist approach to grammar developed by Noam Chomsky. |
