This course will introduce you to the English common law system. The topics discussed will include the history and sources of English law; the working of English law, including judicial precedent and statutory interpretation; the courts; the judiciary, legal professions and lay participation in the legal system; dispute resolution, including the civil and criminal justice system, appeals and judicial review. You will be expected to read complex materials from legal textbooks, judicial decisions and statutes. Your active participation in class will be required.
