This seminar discusses the manifold relations between wetlands and heritage.
How does the understanding of wetlands change through a heritage focus? And what can heritage studies learn from engaging with wetlands?
Central to the seminar is the Moor-Archiv, located at the Lebenswissenschaftliche Fakultät of the Albrecht Daniel Thaer-Institut für Agrar- und Gartenbauwissenschaft. The collection comprises more than 1000 maps, field books and expert reports on the mapping of wetlands from 1953 to 1972. These documents were part of water management and agricultural planning projects in the former German Democratic Republic. What potential do these collections offer in the present?
This seminar is based on the principles of research-based learning. Through fieldwork and collection visits with agricultural scientists, students will develop their own research projects. Their project will be part of a larger research and knowledge exchange project on wetlands in Berlin and Brandenburg, Seoul and Patagonia Argentine Patagonia, which is situated at the newly founded Centre for Advanced Study inherit. heritage in transformation.
According to capacity regulations at the Moor Archiv, a maximum of 15 students can participate in this course type. Should more than 15 students wish to participate in the seminar, the decision on who can (not) take part will be made on a random basis.
The seminar will take place in English and German. Basis knowledge of both language is absolutely necessary in order to follow the course.
Students of all disciplines who are interested in wetlands and enthusiastic about the research-led format are invited to join the seminar.
Most seminar sessions will take place on Wednesdays at Objektlabor Raum 0.21 HZK / Gerlachbau/building 3, Philippstr. 13, 10115 Berlin. We will do fieldtrips however, that will take place on other dates and will take more time, and will be obligatory to attend. We will present the final calendar on the first session of the seminar.
