This introductory course offers an insight into consecutive interpreting, especially interpreting discussions. The students will work on the skills relevant to interpreting such as oral expression, public speaking, note-taking and intercultural communication. This practical course aims to sensitise students to the impact of the interpreter’s presence on the communication process and the ethical questions that arise in interpreted situations, especially in healthcare settings or in court. Interactive exercises form an integral part of the course, students are therefore expected to participate actively. This course is open to students who took “Consecutive Interpreting II” in previous semesters and to new students. Students who wish to take this course should have a good command of English and German (Level B2). Erasmus students welcome.
