Die Lehrveranstaltung findet im Raum 557, Dorotheenstr. 65, statt.
This seminar provides an introduction to philosophy both across the Soviet Union and in exile, from the early revolutionary period to Perestroika. Understanding the main aspects of diverse yet often interconnected philosophical discourses of the Soviet period is not only valuable on its own; it will also help students to deepen their understanding of developments in Soviet and Eastern European literatures and cultures. We will look at themes and thinkers that include Soviet Marxism (Lenin/Bogdanov/Ilyenkov), Russian Cosmism, Jewish Existentialism (Shestov), Cybernetics, religious philosophy (Florensky), semiotics (Jakobson) and aesthetics (Groys).
The course is designed as a block seminar. After two days of introductory lectures (in early May), each participant will choose their focus of interest and develop a small presentation for one of four seminar sessions in June/July (dates will be discussed with participants)
Taught in English. While some knowledge of Russian might be beneficial it is not at all necessary for participation. For MA students in KLMOE, European Literatures, Russian studies. Open to advanced BA students in Philosophy, Cultural studies, Eastern European studies and related disciplines from other universities.
The seminar will be jointly taught by Yelizaveta Landenberger (HU Berlin) and Isabel Jacobs (Queen Mary University, London).
