In this course, students will develop and practise the oral communication skills required to give effective academic presentations to English-speaking audiences. In addition to focusing upon important linguistic, organisational and structural dimensions of academic presentations, the course will enable students to investigate what makes spoken academic discourse in English, German and other languages potentially different. Techniques for interacting effectively with English-speaking academic audiences and for using voice, intonation and prosody while presenting will also be developed. The thematic focus will be on British-related topics as well as on topics pertaining to literary and cultural studies.
