This course takes a practical, hands-on look at the Anglophone literary field in Berlin. Who are the big players and the small fry? Who dominate the bookshops, the writers' scene, the little magazines and the important and lesser-known venues? And can one detect overtones of a colonial legacy, as far removed from former British colonies Berlin seems to be, at least geographically? This project-oriented seminar will send groups of students out into the city to explore key players and their institutions, using observation, ethnographic methods, and creative work to create a map of postcolonial literary Berlin. All levels are welcome, and parts of the course can be adapted for the purposes of school projects for those students who are training to become teachers.
This course is held in English. It offers 5 LP.
It will take place in room 001 at the Centre for British Studies (Großbritannien-Zentrum), Mohrenstraße 60, on Thursdays, 10-12 hrs.
