The research seminar is divided into three distinct work phases: the first part focuses on the concept of transculturality itself. Some publications from the 1990s gave the impression that we can only assume a phenomenon of accelerated "transculturalization" with the advent of media globalization. This assumption can be clearly refuted in view of the long history of transcultural media and communicative practices as well as the concept of "transculturación" (García Canclini). In the second part, we shed more light on these transcultural media and communicative practices using selected examples from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. The third part is devoted to the design and implementation of a self-selected research project focusing on culture and identity.
Note for MA students who wish to take a MAP in this research seminar: this is only possible until February 15, 2024 at the latest, as Prof. Schneider's temporary employment contract ends in February 2024 (as of May 2023).
