Settler colonialism and enslavement have significantly shaped North American history, generating both solidarity and conflict between Indigenous people and African Americans depending on the political and cultural context. As a result, a significant number of people identify as both Black and Native American. In this course, we will engage with literary representations of these positions at the intersections of Indigeneity and Blackness, and the complex relationships they illuminate in literary texts such as Honorée Fanonne Jeffers's The Love Songs of W.E.B. Du Bois. |
