In this course, students will familiarize themselves with the genre of the English essay, investigating academic norms, textual dimensions, styles and techniques commonly encountered in various essay types. They will critically analyse selected English essays belonging to the categories reflective-discursive, argumentative and descriptive and write extended essays of their own to practise using the style and conventions of each type. There will be a focus on literary, cultural and philosophical themes. In addition to working upon their own essay writing skills, students will have an opportunity to review and discuss essays written by their peers throughout the course.
This course will include elements of blended learning.
