In this course we will engage with some key postmodern literary texts from Britain and examine them in regard to formal innovations and modes of representation, along with various theoretical essays introducing some of the main approaches and positions of postmodern thinkers. We will be exploring these texts’ relationships to the changing social, economic, political and technological dimensions of post-war Britain and critically discuss how they negotiate issues of gender, race, and class, and how they reflect on Britain’s history of imperialism. |
