This practical course offers students interested in translation as a professional activity an opportunity to develop their translatorial competence in a variety of settings linked to journalism and media-related professions. In a variety of professional situations requiring either at-sight, ex tempore translation, or written translation (including adaptation of culturally-specific texts) participants will be sensitized to key linguistic and translatorial principles that influence the translation process between German and English. At the end of the course, students will have a repertoire of core translation strategies at their disposal they could readily employ in journalistic/media-related environments. Maximal 20 Teilnehmer.
