This seminar is interdisciplinary in nature and aims to provide a critical understanding of the functioning of the social world by taking a cross-disciplinary view of cultural studies, sociology, law and politics. This seminar places cultural studies and practices at the heart of gender, law, labor studies and collective mobilizations. It provides students with a solid understanding of social, legal and political structures, including issues of gender studies, cultural practices, inequality and male domination. Understanding gender studies from a critical, legal and political perspective enables the identification of persistent inequalities in societies. This understanding is used throughout the seminar to illustrate the roots of inequality, as well as possible solutions. The starting point for each week is a particular phenomenon that highlights a specific relationship of persistent inequality between men and women at work and in society at large. Thus, in the world of activism, trade unions and politics, the focus is on understanding feminist mobilizations in their intersectional dimension. Several phenomena are explored as outlined below and aregrouped under three main themes that serve as a starting point for discussion and exploration: gender, law, trade unionism, politics, labor, feminism, collective mobilizations, racism and resistance. |
