This seminar aims at providing prospective teachers of English with insights on varying statuses and functions of the English language across different contexts. To this extent, the seminar looks into how the English language has transformed into Englishes through such conceptual frameworks as Global Englishes, Colonial Englishes, and World Englishes.
By the end of this seminar, participants will be able to develop a broad understanding of the status of Englishes and their lexical, phonetic, syntactic and semantic implications. The participants will be able to critically and linguistically analyze the relevance of the theme in English Language Teaching theoretically and practically. Also, participants will be engaged in discussions around such concepts as standardization, native speakerism, English as a Lingua Franca and English as an additional language.
Participants will be responsible for answering the questions, following the discussions and commenting on the theoretical framework outlined in the articles. Group work and presentations will be expected from the participants. The language of the seminar will be English. |
