During the course the participants will learn about international courts operating in Europe. The main focus of the course will be placed upon the European courts, namely the CJEU and the ECtHR, however we will also mention other international courts situated in Europe (such as the ICC and ICJ). During the course, the participants will take a quick look at the history of the international judiciary in Europe – its beginnings and raisons d’ être. The course will also seek to answer whether the international courts should be independent, and how their independence differs from the independence of national courts. Furthermore, the course participants will also try to determine the impact of the international courts upon the legal landscape in the Member States and their impact on every-day life of people in Europe. In order to deal with the latter, some case law of the CJEU and ECtHR will be read, analysed and discussed. |
