In this course, students will develop and practise the oral communication skills required to give effective academic presentations to English-speaking audiences. In addition to focusing upon important linguistic, organisational and structural dimensions of academic presentations, the course will enable students to investigate what makes spoken academic discourse in English and German potentially different. Techniques for interacting effectively with English-speaking academic audiences and for using voice, intonation and prosody while presenting will also be developed. The thematic focus will be on British-related topics as well as on topics from literary and cultural studies.
This course will involve blended learning.
Interested students should send an email to michael.davies@hu-berlin.de by Wednesday, 12th October 2022 and include details of practical language courses they have already attended in modules 1a and 1b of the MA English Literatures programme. |
