In this course, students will reflect upon how to develop cultural competence at different levels of the curriculum and take a hands-on approach to devising and presenting a cultural lesson of their own that could be implemented in an English classroom. In addition to investigating crucial didactic and methodological issues involved in developing ‘explicit’ and ‘implicit’ cultural knowledge, the course will also deal with how to adjust instructional language and classroom discourse to different age and ability levels and how to select and use cultural materials effectively in heterogeneous classrooms.
This course will involve blended learning.
