In this practical course, students will look at how to develop grammatical competence in the classroom from the perspective of pupils acquiring grammar as part of overall language ability. Students will investigate the different types and causes of errors typically encountered in spoken and written output and reflect upon how teachers can provide and adapt grammatical input to meet the needs of different learner types. Key concerns throughout the course will be how to impart grammatical knowledge as part of communicative competence, how to make valid and reliable assessments of language ability in testing situations, and how to develop feedback strategies that enable pupils to learn from their grammatical errors.
This course will involve blended learning.
