The Tutorial Knowledge Production: Decolonial, Indigenous and Feminist Research Methodologies is a training course and a space for self-reflection. An introduction into decolonial, indigenous and feminist research approaches represent the core subjects throughout the sessions. The lecture is a collaboration between the research-based learning initiative at the Chair for Transregional Southeast Asian Studies at the IAAW (Institute of Asian and Africa Studies). We will read and discuss about facts and problems such as, dynamics between the global south and the global north, inequality, uncovering cultural dynamics, the lack of diversity and creativity in academic sources, oral histories or arts in social sciences, human rights and decoloniality, etc.). Students bring their own ideas, concerns and questions to each session, main articles on decolonial discourses will be read/ reflected, and standard research methods are being questioned to develop critical perspectives.
Structure
We will meet every two weeks online for the lecture. In between there will be self-directed learning- sessions, discussions groups and one in-person block-seminar (dates will be discussed, most likely in June). As part of the tutorial, you will join several seminar sessions with the BA und MA students at the IAAW in hybrid and live sessions.
This seminar is open for BA and MA students who wish to gain an first introductive knowledge into decolonial, indigenous and feminist approaches in academia, activism and research. The first seminar will take place on Monday, April 25th over Zoom.
Please contact the course instructor if you have any questions or requests. The times may change, depending on demand. The seminar language will be English but can be switched into German if requested by studnets. Speaking hours will be provided.
