Social mobilisation around struggles for environmental justice often triggers institutional transformation. However, the particularities of these processes of change remain under-examined. The primary aim of this research project is to develop a deeper understanding of environmental conflict dynamics, and the factors and conditions that lead to institutional transformation brought about by social-ecological movements in environmental justice struggles.
For this project, participants will undertake research on the mapping, characterization, and analysis of contemporary environmental conflicts. The research project is aimed at master's degree students interested in environmental sciences from a social analysis perspective. Students with a background in political sciences, economics, anthropology, geography, and environmental sciences with a special interest on natural resource management and social development, will find the project relevant to their fields.
