The course covers the fundamentals of computational fluid dynamics and reviews some basic numerical concepts needed to solve initial and boundary-value problems. The theoretical concepts are strengthened by hand-on exercises using Jupyter notebooks. The knowledge will be extended during the course and applied to real-world problems from ongoing research projects. In the second half of the course we will use the numerical weather prediction model PALM to investigate complex atmospheric processes and phenomena. Besides the application, the course focuses on the processing, handling, and analysis of spatio-temporal data with Python. Participants will have the opportunity to work closely with ongoing research projects and to work on selected case studies in a very research-oriented way. |
