LL.M. studies in the United States are particularly rewarding, both academically and personally. At the same time, they require a considerable amount of preparation – especially for applications at leading American universities and for scholarships, but also for the LL.M. year as such. This course aims at preparing students to successfully complete the most important steps towards LL.M. studies in the United States. It will thus give advice on applications for LL.M. programs at American law schools and for scholarships to finance the year abroad. Those applications often require a number of statements or essays and have to be submitted nearly a year before the beginning of the LL.M. program. The course furthermore provides an introduction to U.S. Constitutional Law – also for those whose primary fields of interest are in other areas of law. Due to the central role of the constitution in the history and politics of the United States, knowledge of the basics of its constitutional law is necessary for understanding the American legal system and thus provides a useful basis for LL.M. studies at American law schools. |
