This course is an introduction to make sense of the feminist/women’s movements in Turkey from a philosophical perspective by focussing particularly on the historical changes of six prominent concepts used in the feminist/women’s movements in Turkey after 1970s: equality, freedom, sisterhood, solidarity, coalition and conflict. Each week will focus on one movement/group and will question which concepts are of primary use for what political, economic reasons by taking race, class, sex(uality), culture and womanhood as relevant theoretical axes. The course will end with a critical discussion on the relationalities of the feminist/women’s movements in Turkey.
The course has three main aims: First, it opens up a critical space to discuss the feminist/women’s movements in Turkey historically. Secondly, it aims to make sense of the movements’ political agendas from a philosophical/conceptual perspective. Third, it will provide a space to discuss the relationalities of the movements.
- Gaining abilities on how to think critically and analytically on the feminist/women’s movements in Turkey;
- Approaching feminist/women’s movements from a philosophical perspective;
- Developing oral skills of presenting knowledge: qualified papers are going to be presented at on online panel at the end of the semester;
Gaining confidence in critical writing: qualified papers are going to be published on a blog at the end of the semester. |
