This research and writing course is designed for BA-students in their final semesters. It is designed to prepare and support BA-thesis candidates in writing their BA-thesis. We will cover topics such as: How to plan and organise your BA-thesis-project; how to find an appropriate thesis topic and a central research question; how to come up with a first outline and structure of your thesis. Furthermore, we will talk about bibliographical conventions, the use of academic language, about methodology, theoretical grounding and contextualisation of your topics.
In this class we will run through the process of writing an academic paper – theoretically and with many practical exercises that centre on the academic writing project that each of you chooses to pursue. The class is most effective for those students in their final semester who have started thinking about and are about to start writing their BA thesis; each student needs an academic writing project to make most of this class.
NOTE: The seminar focuses on BA thesis topics and methods in literary and cultural studies. There is an alternative research colloquium specifically designed for BA theses in linguistics available, too. |
