CC-Insta (Climate change Instagram) - Detailseite

CC-Insta or climate change Instagram is an online interdisciplinary seminar open for Bachelor and Master students from different disciplines, from Information and Communication Technologies to Media Studies, Linguistics and Semiotics, etc. Are you interested in social media and climate change? This semester, you are welcome join CC-Insta online seminars.

Through different approaches, we will identify patterns and tendencies in communicating climate change mitigation and audience’s response to it on Instagram. We will focus on the communication spread by opinion leaders, who actively publish their messages on climate change mitigation on Instagram.

Shortly speaking, during the seminars we will work in small groups in order to:

• Automatically collect Instagram data: publications, metadata, comments to them;
• Sort these data according to different parameters;
• Conduct a detailed multimodal analysis of most prominent publications;
• Conduct the analysis of the comments to these publications.

We will work with the following computer tools: Python, Excel, Tableau, VoyantTools; PowerPoint.

The results of your group work will be presented in the form of presentation during the last seminar. The most interesting investigations will be published on the website http://change4climate.eu/.

Final exam: no exam, but your work can be evaluated if it is required by your department or university

About the Q-Team leader:

Yuliya Samofalova is a PhD student in Information and Communication at the UCLouvain, Belgium. She is working on analyzing Instagram, TikTok and YouTube publications on climate change mitigation in Europe.
