Visualising the City as/in Ethnography is a course focused around the production, circulation and perception of visual representations of the city in ethnography. From early traditions of ethnographic photography to the more recent multimodal; feminist, decolonial and other artistic/scholarly takes on the city, the course aims to explore the spatial, political, cultural and methodological routes to rethink the mutual production of urban visualisation and ethnographic knowledge. Thematically the course is organised around two interrelated modes of inquiry, 1) visual regimes and representations of the city that have existed within ethnography as a field, 2) urban-focussed visualising practices that have been developed and/or implemented as ethnographic method.
