Das Seminar verknüpft theoretische Perspektiven aus feministischen postkolonialen STS (Science & Technology Studies) mit urbanen Problemstellungen. Im gesellschaftlichen Diskurs werden Wissenschaft, Forschung und Technologien als Motor für Innovation meist positiv hervorgehoben. Demgegenüber wird sich das Seminar nicht nur kritisch mit dem Fortschrittsgedanken und dem zugrunde liegenden Narrativ gesellschaftlicher und wirtschaftlicher "Entwicklung" befassen, sondern insbesondere die hegemonialen Machtstrukturen und die damit einhergehenden Ungleichheiten beleuchten. Dafür bilden einschlägige Texte der feministischen postkolonialen STS die Grundlage, die dann gemeinsam auf konkrete Themen der Stadt angewendet werden.
Das Seminar teilt sich in einen eher theoretischen Teil (Okt.- Dez.) und einen praktischen Teil (Jan.-März). Im praktischen Teil wird die Projektarbeit in Kleingruppen im Vordergrund stehen.
Die Literatur und die weiteren Quellen sind fast ausschließlich auf Englisch, daher sollten Studierende Englisch gut beherrschen. Falls Studierende teilnehmen möchten, die kein Deutsch sprechen, werden wir das Seminar auf Englisch durchführen.

The seminar links theoretical perspectives from feminist postcolonial STS (Science & Technology Studies) with urban problems. In general, science, research and technologies are usually emphasised positively as a motor for innovation. In contrast, the seminar will not only critically examine the idea of progress and the underlying narrative of social and economic "development", but especially shed light on the hegemonic power structures and the inequalities that accompany them. For this, relevant texts of feminist postcolonial STS will form the basis, which will then be jointly applied to concrete issues in the city.
The seminar is divided into a more theoretical part (Oct.-Dec.) and a practical part (Jan.-March). The practical part will focus on project work in small groups.
The literature and other sources are almost exclusively in English, so students should have a good command of English. If students who do not speak German wish to participate, we will conduct the seminar in English. |
