The students are expected to acquire knowledge of historical and contemporary discourses on the significance of Islamic cultural history and the realities of Muslim life in Europe. You can assess the social role of Islam in secular and religious environments in Europe, especially in Germany, and compare the diversity of intellectual currents and positions in the context of different fields of discourse (e.g. in the area of law or gender identities) with reference to the analysis of the current research situation. You will also get a well-founded insight into Islamic currents and Muslim institutions and actors in Germany. You will also be able to identify and assess religious self-conceptions and ascriptions.
