In this course, students will reflect upon how to develop cultural competence at different levels of the curriculum and take a hands-on approach to devising and presenting a cultural lesson of their own that could be implemented in an English classroom. In addition to investigating crucial didactic and methodological issues involved when teaching ‘explicit’ and ‘implicit’ dimensions of cultural competence, the course will also deal with how to adjust instructional language and classroom discourse to different age and ability levels and how to select and use materials for cultural input effectively in the classroom.
This course will take place asynchronously and synchronously online and will include weekly Zoom meetings in the second half of the semester. Interested students should register by Wednesday, 13th October 2021 using the form on the MA Ed English Sprachpraxis Course Registration WiSe 2021-22 Moodle page. The password is: sprchprxs21-22
