In this course, students will not only identify and work upon improving grammatical weaknesses they may still have, but also consider how developing grammatical competence and language ability in the classroom requires teachers to address the difficulties real pupils are faced with when acquiring grammar. Students will investigate the various causes and types of errors pupils may make when speaking and writing English and consider how teachers can adapt grammatical input to the needs of different types of learners at the various learner levels. Key concerns throughout the course will be how to teach grammatical competence, how to make assessments of language ability as valid and reliable as possible, and how to develop and structure feedback strategies to enable pupils to learn effectively from grammatical errors they may make.
This course will take place asynchronously and synchronously online and will include occasional Zoom meetings. Interested students should register by Wednesday, 13th October 2021 using the form on the MA Ed English Sprachpraxis Course Registration WiSe 2021-22 Moodle page. The password is: sprchprxs21-22
