Debates and discussions are common and essential elements of academic seminars. This course aims to develop students’ ability to participate in these effectively and feel at ease in a variety of roles. Skills honed include presenting and reacting to arguments, chairing sessions, providing support and developing a set of rhetoric moves and techniques for conducting advanced academic exchanges. This will be complemented by studying authentic intellectual debates on a variety of topics and staging our own class debates.
