This research/writing course is designed to prepare and support you in writing your BA-thesis. Topics covered are such as: How to plan and organise your BA-thesis-project; how to find an appropriate thesis topic and a key research question; how to choose your reading; how to come up with a first outline and structure of your thesis; how to manage your time. Next to refamiliarizing you with bibliographical conventions, the course also aims at exploring the use of academic language as well as issues of methodology and theoretical grounding.
In this class, we will thus run through the process of writing an academic paper – in theory and with many practical exercises that centre on the academic writing project that each of you chooses to pursue. The class is most effective for those students who are about to start thinking about and writing their BA thesis; each student needs an academic writing project to make most of this class.
