The course is designed to give students an overview of North American literary history. At the same time, it serves to prepare MA students for teaching a tutorial (Lektüreübung) in the BA American Studies. Selected primary texts of particular importance for these tutorials will be discussed in class with a particular focus on central issues in American Studies as well as different ways of reading North American literature and culture.
The course will be based primarily on the Norton Anthology of American Literature, Shorter Ninth Edition; additional materials will be made available digitally.
Online semester: Please make sure to be available during the seminar’s allotted time slot. I envision a hybrid seminar with synchronous as well as asynchronous elements, but am open for your suggestions. Please familiarize yourselves with the Moodle site and introduce yourselves prior to the first session (Tuesday Nov. 3rd). You will receive an email with the Moodle password as soon as the registration period on Agnes is over. |
