Seminar for learning advanced quantitative methods in statistical analysis for the social sciences. This first part deals with cross-sectional methods.
Topics include:
- Multivariate linear regression (incl. an excursus on `Properties of estimators') - Significance and testing - Nonlinear models - Survey weights - (A bit of) Statistical learning
This seminar uses the statistical software R - but at a really beginner level. (Any syntax can be easily ported to Stata.) The reason is that R is much more flexible and offers a wider range of functions. As an investment in the future, learning R is very useful especially when it comes to current developments in statistical and machine learning.
