This course will engage with a range of texts written by women authors in the last decades of the twentieth century, examining them within their socio-cultural and political context and alongside prominent theories of the time. Combined with theories of postmodernism, poststructuralism, feminism, gender and queer theory, our readings will look at language as well as aesthetic and literary strategies, in order to discuss questions of representation, history, knowledge systems, literary genre, as well as of literary periodization and canonization. Special attention will be paid to issues of gender, sexuality, race, class, and violence, and their relation to concepts of identity, subjectivity and embodiment.
A selection of primary and secondary reading will be available closer to the beginning of the term. |
