As a vibrant literary form, contemporary North American drama reflects and speaks to many political issues both in the US and in Canada. Plays highlight the performative quality of categories such as gender and sexuality; they address settler colonialism, 'race' and class. The course focuses on North American plays written and performed since the 1980s, including works by Paula Vogel, Tony Kushner, Guillermo Verdecchia, and others.
To obtain credit for this course, participants have to contribute to class discussions, as well as the organization of one session. |
