The lecture introduces students to patent law with a focus on the European Patent Convention and current patent litigation in Europe. Potential legal developments like the European patent with unitary effect and the Unified Patent Court will be included. Among the core topics are the economic functions of patent law, patents as property rights, the concept of invention, exclusions from patentability, novelty and inventive step as patentability requirements, formal requirements, inventor and investor, patent prosecution and patent litigation. Life sciences and information technology patents will get special attention. |
