Analogy and metaphor play an important role in thinking, not least in philosophy, although this has often been swept under the rug or kicked out of play. In this Hauptseminar we will both examine philosophical accounts of analogy and metaphor (for example, by Aristotle, Hesse, Davidson, Lakoff and Johnson) and explore their role in philosophy, both Western and non-Western.
The seminar will be conducted mainly in English, but contributions in German will also be music to our ears. |
