Haven’t we arrived at a time where we feel we have consumed almost all possible paths in male politics and political philosophy? What can be the alternative contributions of feminist politics and feminist political philosophy to the current stagnation in global politics and to that of in Turkey, a country carrying a considerable potential of feminist politics within the globe?

This course is an introduction to feminist political philosophy. Feminist interventions in the history of Western philosophy can be traced through three main lines: 1. feminist epistemology and methodological approaches; 2. feminist critical readings of the canonical philosophical texts; 3. feminist thought/philosophy which particularly yet not exclusively focus on political philosophy and ethics.

This course aims to focus on the feminist political thought/philosophy from a historical perspective without capturing a holistic perspective on the field. Rather, a selective reading of certain texts will enable us to get familiar with some writers, philosophical texts and certain concepts as useful tools to think of feminist philosophy. A historical approach will enable us to see how these texts form any continuities and/or breaks and how they are related with the context from which they arise. More significantly, this class is considered as a space to think how to make use of certain categories like class and race along with gender/sexuality? We will particularly focus on issues in feminist political philosophy and ethics, including issues relating to sex, gender, sexuality; class; race; feminist ethics; oppression, resistance and justice. The course aims to discuss certain central concepts of feminist political philosophy in relation, yet without reducing, to the global and local socio-political conflicts.
