The goal of this course is to help students improve their philosophical writing, and especially their philosophical writing in English. To that end, we will read and critique a miscellany of philosophical classics, old as well as new, including Plato on the division of the soul, Parfit on Personal Identity over time, Hume on Miracles, McMahan on our reason to desire the extinction of all carnivores), Williamson on the limits of our knowledge of our own minds, and more. For the same reason, the course will require frequent but short papers, as well as reading and giving constructive feedback on other participants' papers.
In order to allow for sufficient individual feedback, the course is limited to 25 participants. Please email joseph.bjelde@hu-berlin.de by 17.4.2017 in order to secure a place. |
