This 'Communication and Development' course introduces students an understanding of the use of communication for human development purposes. The course, in particular, focuses on community-level participatory communication approach in development projects and will critically review the procedures of this approach, methodologies and methods. In addition, the course will also concentrate on the role of international organizations (such as United Nations), governments and NGOs in promoting the use of of new information and communication technologies in international development projects, particularly in community-level participatory communication approach, as well as the issues pertaining to the use of information communication technologies (ICTs) in development projects. Using a holistic approach, as we study theoretical issues, students will also concentrate on case studies of field projects from Asia and Africa. The course will also provide an opportunity to the students to interact with some professionals from international development agencies. |
