Experimental studies on human memory carried out at the end of the 19th century by psychologists contributed largely to the discredit of eyewitnesses. Lay witnesses - the main source of information at that time - were not any longer reliable and experts in criminalistics or medicine replaced them eagerly.
The investigation of the mental state of defendants, of the credibility of witnesses, and the prognosis of the dangerousness allowed in the second half of last century new categories of experts - psychiatrists and psychologists - to be involved in the judicial process. In the past fifteen years, forensic neuroscience emerged as a new discipline aiming at the detection of deception among others.
With recent studies and reports presented by experts in court cases, the seminar addresses forensic disciplines investigating the mind, their limitations and their scientific foundations.
The seminar will be held as Blockseminar and also integrates online sessions;
